Which podcasts are we listening to?

As for the title, "The Greatest Con" seems appropriate for the first story, how the Allies tricked the Germans in WWII. But when he presents a story of how somebody conned a TV show and he ends with his wild-eyed "THIS might possibly be ... the world's GREATEST con," it's just plain stupid.

Yes, Season 2 about game show cons didn't interest me at all, and I skipped most of it. Go straight on to Project Alpha.

I also skipped the episode at the end of that season, which was an interview with Michael Shermer. I'm not interested in anything that man has to say.

So I went through my backlog and ran out of things to listen to this morning. The Infinite Monkey Cage and Stuff The British Stole are between seasons right now so aren't releasing new episodes. I've resubscribed to 99% Invisible and Freakonomics because they're almost always interesting, but I've also added Professor Buzzkill and Our Fake History to my subscriptions based on recommendations in this thread.

It was Professor Buzzkill who recommended Our Fake History to me. I had been listening to his podcast and I wrote to ask him a history question, and he wrote back to tell me that Our Fake History had covered the subject. OFH is now one of my two favorite podcasts, along with The Constant: A History of Getting Things Wrong. And yes, I like both better than the SGU, though I still like the SGU. I still listen to Professor Buzzkill but it's below a number of others on my list.

A while back both OFH and The Constant did series on the origins of heavier-than-air flight, but from such different angles that they complemented each other. The former covered mostly the thread that led to successful flight, while the latter covered mostly the loonies whose crackpot attempts failed spectacularly. In particular, there were two broad categories of inventors: One which experimented by trying to get off the ground, and another which, without prior testing, launched their inventions from high places. The results were exactly as you'd expect.
