So what's up with some items I used to see that were Yeast-free...is there an actual allergy or was there a movement of folks who just choose not to eat yeast?

It's an alt-med treatment for yeast infection.

so eating cooked bread leavened with one species of yeast will give you an infection of another species....

I'm convinced that you could market anything with a label that says "NOW xxx FREE!!", and the woo-ish will assume that "xxx" must be bad for them.  I've talked to a few people who assume that gluten free foods exist because gluten is a bad thing that is harmful to everyone.
If one is going to be ignorant, then one may as well make a thorough and studied job of it.

I'd also like to know where you are getting this info since I have watches thousands of hours of cooking shows and read hundreds of cookbooks and have never seen this mentioned anywhere.
The actual pizza dough recipe that sparked my curiosity came from a book I have called 'Pizza! Delicious recipes for toppings and crusts for all pizza lovers' printed in 2006. The recipes I have used so far work great and the authors know quite a bit about pizza making. In their section on yeast they are very careful to say to use a glass bowl and a wooden spoon. Once I read this I remembered I had heard similar claims in the past so I went online and did find other similar claims in bread recipes. The main spot it kept popping up the most was (as a few people here have mentioned) in recipes for sourdough. From what I have seen sourdough yeast is grown over several days, so I could see how a reaction with the metal and the yeast mix could happen over a few days and effect the process.

I just got a pizza oven and have started making my own pizza dough. I have looked at a few recipes and most of them make the express point not to mix yeast in a metal bowl or with metal implements.

It's an urban legend, nothing more.  I'm a homebrewer and one of the most desirable fermenting vessels for home brewers are (sadly expensive) conical stainless steel fermenters. I do all my dough mixing in metal bowls and have never had a problem with them killing yeast.

I also make sourdough. I usually age the sourdough on the counter in a metal bowl. While I've had yeast die in the fridge after being neglected for a few months I've never had a problem with the sourdough in metal bowls on the counter.

Ok. I make bread in a kitchenaid bowl, stainless steel.
I proof it in a stainless steel mixing bowl.

I do second rise and bake in an anodized aluminium pan.

The yeast ain't dead yet.

I've also made pizza dough.

Same method except that I finally baked it on a stone.  But I don't make pizza myself much, my oven isn't big enough or hot enough.
