I broke the fourth toe on my left foot 3 weeks ago. It's the middle of the soccer season and I have had to stop reffing. Just saw the doctor today for an x-ray, and it's healing fine, but I'll be out another 3 weeks.

Take care, and I hope it heals fast. I know how miserable it can be when an injury prevents physical activity.

The back pain that's been bothering me for a while seems to be getting worse. It gives me a momentary sharp twinge of pain with certain kinds of movement. Sometimes very brief, but lately it's sometimes more. And yesterday, for the first time, it was bothering me while paddling. We switch sides every 12 to 16 strokes or so, and I was fine while paddling on the left, but when paddling on the right it was causing a moderate constant ache.

Even just sitting here typing, a very small wrong movement causes a momentary slight pain.

My yoga teacher thought was my psoas muscle. But both my Pilates instructors think it's the QL muscle. I think my Pilates instructors are probably more knowledgable about physiology. One has a masters degree in physical therapy and the other is a former ballet dancer.

I'm going to take a rest day today.

Maybe my QL will join my neck as a chronic pain I just have to live with. Worst-case would be it gets bad enough it prevents me from exercise. I doubt I'd live long if I quit exercising. Not sure I'd want to live if I couldn't paddle.

Today was the Paddle for Hunger (a fund-raiser for the food bank) and I paddled for the first time since Monday, on account of my bad back. To my surprise, my back was pretty much okay the whole way, and didn't start bothering again (a little bit) until I got home and sat down to rinse my feet before coming inside.
